Pastor Robert Haling

My goal as pastor, is to be faithful first and foremost to the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, who is the head and the foundation of the church, who has given us all we need, written in His word, that is necessary for faith and practice.

My goal as pastor is to see the church minister effectively in these areas: Worship, Edification, Evangelism, and Discipline.

My role as pastor is to feed the flock of God on His word, to minister to God’s people in whatever situation they find themselves in. To equip and teach the church to be salt and light in our world that many people will come to know the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior.

In all, to honor God’s word, and to depend up on the working of the Holy Spirit, that clearly, all that is done in the Name of Christ will be a testimony of God working, that in turn will bring praise and honor to His Name.

Conversion and Call

As Most Europeans, I was baptized as an infant and brought up under cold, religious Mechanics, all the while thinking that I was a Christian. After all, I did not bow before Man-made images, nor was I ever being confronted with the truth of needing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. By the grace and mercy of our Great God and through the witness of my wife, Frankie; the perseverance of other Christians and the faithful proclamation of my first pastor, Robert Post, I came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus in 1966.

Early on, after my conversion, there was a strong desire to be used by God in preaching, the Gospel, ministering to people , our Lord granted this gift to me, by using me in many ways in the life of our church.

In 1980, I was ordained to the Gospel Ministry and subsequently, I minister- ed bi-vocationally for a period of ten years.

In 1989, Southwood Baptist Church called my wife and me to the full-time ministry. Along the way, a door was opened for me to teach God’s Word in my native tongue, the German Language, on a weekly basis in Oklahoma City. The Lord blessed this endeavor in many different ways, doors were opened both here at home and in Germany.

From a young age I attended church but never saw truth.  My family at the time was probably best described as universalism; all roads lead to God, along with a heavy dose of spiritual apathy.  As a young man I lived my life bitter and broken as I saw my family beaten, broken, and ripped to pieces by an abusive father with no love for God and a mother numb to its effects upon herself and her children.  As I tried to hold on to what little family I had, a second abusive relationship after the death of my father led me to be adopted by a loving family within the church.  During this, I was found by God; I did not seek God on my own but he came and entered my life and changed it.  God has since taught me through many difficult lessons what it means to be a Christian.

I have little interest in the lights and sounds of this world and using those to entice people to come to church and feel good. Although I think a good deal of enjoyment should happen in the walls of the church, many times those things are used in place of truth. Far too many times I have seen people walk in and out the doors of a church or go to an event and have an emotional experience with a perception of God that is distorted and leave as lost as they were when they walked in.  The truths of scripture must be proclaimed and put into action to save the lost.  People do not need a production; they need a savior.
