In Memoriam: Pastor Robert Haling
Pastor Robert Haling passed away on Nov. 26, 2020. The church currently is seeking a new pastor.
My goal as pastor is to be faithful first and foremost to the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior, who is the head and the foundation of the church, who has given us all we need, written in His word, that is necessary for faith and practice.
My goal as pastor is to see the church minister effectively in these areas: Worship, Edification, Evangelism, and Discipline.
My role as pastor is to feed the flock of God on His word, to minister to God’s people in whatever situation they find themselves, and to equip and teach the church to be salt and light in our world that many people will come to know the Lord Jesus as Lord and Savior.
In all, to honor God’s word, and to depend upon the working of the Holy Spirit, that clearly, all that is done in the name of Christ will be a testimony of God working, that in turn will bring praise and honor to His name.
As most Europeans, I was baptized as an infant and brought up under cold, religious mechanics, all the while thinking that I was a Christian. After all, I did not bow before man-made images, nor was I ever being confronted with the truth of needing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. By the grace and mercy of our great God and through the witness of my wife, Frankie, the perseverance of other Christians and the faithful proclamation of my first pastor, Robert Post, I came to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus in 1966.
Early on, after my conversion, there was a strong desire to be used by God in preaching the Gospel, ministering to people. Our Lord granted this gift to me, by using me in many ways in the life of our church.
In 1980, I was ordained to the Gospel Ministry and subsequently, I ministered bivocationally for 10 years.
In 1989, Southwood Baptist Church called my wife and me to the full-time ministry. Along the way, a door was opened for me to teach God’s Word in my native German language on a weekly basis in Oklahoma City. The Lord blessed this endeavor in many ways; doors were opened both here at home and in Germany.
